We frequently day-dream and there's nothing wrong in that! But when we're trying to re-capture the past or re-create the present, things can get wildy out of hand.

We all day-dream at some time. We have strong desires about things that make us wish for events to happen, or possessions to arrive our way. In a sense we can time-travel, as when we project ourselves into the past, by reliving some experiences in our mind. Equally we can temporarily live in a self-created future. But throughout all these mindsets, we have control over our existing situation. We click back into reality when the train reaches the station, the film finishes, or the person stops talking. If we've really get deeply into our daydream, then it'll be a jolt when circumstances force it to end.

On occasions however the daydream is something deeper, when a situation that needs support or correction is what's being thought about. The various possibilities will be conceived in the mind, creating scenarios in which all the characters play out the roles they've been assigned, and the consequences are followed through. This is okay for providing solutions to academic, workplace and social problems. A personal soap opera has been developed and assessments are made as to how everyone might act. Thus the background to a directional plan has been formulated.

The more serious consequence of this is when the scenarios created in the mind, begin to become accepted by the individual. Now when other worlds in the mind are visited, they are accepted as a personal vision of reality, where our rule is law. In order to accept alternative opinions of this newly established perspective, the apparent mismatched views of the surrounding crowd are acknowledged. This is not simply looking at things through 'rose-coloured spectacles', this is recreating the world to reflect a personal view.

Soon it seems that a perverse nature appears to emerge from the differing views of others compared to those of the individual. It becomes apparent that people are deliberately attempting to undermine the reality which contains the greater truth. Their opinions grate uncomfortably and while an attempt may be made to accommodate them at first, the simple solution is to ignore them completely. Thus there is no longer any discussion of the subject or, an opportunity to present any contributory views.

The day-dream, which is now the established reality, appears and reappears like a Jekyll and Hyde condition. At times the individual is in touch with the accepted reality of the world, but more often they're not. They can suddenly become enveloped by their own thoughts without an apparent trigger. The consequence can be violence in words or deeds, or a quiet withdrawal into a closed and unquestioned environment. As others begin to ignore or avoid this uncompromising stance, they too have their pleas of rationality ignored. This results in obscuring any real sense contained in either world.

Breakdown mode is now being entered, for this new truth appears further away from that operated by the majority of people. The old reality is full of horror and contains rules that make no sense other than with the sole purpose to torture unremittingly. It is far easier to ignore totally the old reality, than submit to something that is no longer understood. The power of reason has been lost and feelings can only be directed to whatever end satisfies them. The individual is left to live in their own reality, because its conditions are too obscure for anyone else to comprehend. This simply adds to the perversity that is seen in everyone's reaction.

Which reality is real is no longer a consideration, for this aspect has no meaning to the individual. A daily survival is what becomes most important to the individual. Re-adjustments are also made on an almost daily basis in order to maintain individual sanity. The world is totally open in their mind. There is no conscious or sub-conscious state, there is simply sleep or wakening and a dream may extend into the wakened state. There are safe houses, but they may have complex routes to reach them. Only by chance does the individual's reality co-join with that of the generally accepted version. On these days there appears to be no difference in their behaviour to that of anyone else's. It is on these occasions that a rationalised reality can be offered to re-establish a path back to the common reality.
